A History of the .38 Special

Love this round.

It can be mild—feeling like a big .22, almost—to wild; I loaded some cases to an almost Elmer Keith level .38/44 Heavy Duty load...and they clocked just under several commercial .357 loads. I do not recommend doing this, by the way..

A .38 K-frame is perhaps the perfect platform to introduce a new shooter to centerfire cartridges...

I have loaded and shot thousands of rounds of 38 SpL rounds over the years in both practice and competition. I am not sure where the author got the idea that .357 Mag guns were heavier and more unwieldly than the 38 Spl guns as most are
on the same frames. The .38 SPL is a joy to shoot. I have to agree with @HansGuber that a K-frame .38 SPL is a great choice for a new shooter to start out using.

I wish I had a dollar for every .38 special I have fired. For two years I fired 50 - 100 rounds every day that was decent enough to be outdoors. Days when it was 10 degrees and wind at 20MPH I wasn't out there.
