Thanks!@10mm: I have, somewhere, a dvd called the Last Voices (?) of WWI. Presumably made in the mid to late 1990s it is a well produced series of interviews with the few 10-12 vets still living from the war. Made in UK, the vets are mostly Brit. It is excellent. If your interested, message me and I’ll try to find it and send u the exact title. I may’ve gotten it off Amazon, but it was circa 2010 when i was at Ft Leonard Wood MO.
All: if u like history quirks, Google or Wikipedia the name Irene Triplett. From a hillbilly family in western NC (my home state), she was the last beneficiary of a Veterans Administration pension as daughter of a Civil War union vet. She died last fall. Age 92.
Really kinda spooky to think about. Civil War was 150 yrs ago !

The man in video reminded me of neighbor had years ago. He was an ex German soldier, a very good guy and solitaire man. Not many others paid him much attention, but I did. The man in video and him sounded much alike in their stories. Just common people, ordinary normally good at heart people, doing what they needed to do at the time. He lived with his feelings, they were worn into his kindly old face. He was a great guy and neighbor with many st
