A really good M1 rifle article

Thanks Recusant,
A very good article, much already knew and some on more personal note obviously didn't. One thing learned long ago was to listen to the voices and wisdom of old men when they choose to speak and history. Those backwoods, good old boys, are always special for mischief and getting things done too? :) Article had some excellent unseen pics for the period. (y)(y)

I have said it before, I am half as tough as my dad, who was wounded in WWII in the pacific. He always said he was half as tough as his dad, who had been wounded 2 times and gassed in the hell hole trenches of WWI. They don't make em like they used to.

My father-in-law got to Europe the last week of December of 1944. He was assigned to the 3rd Army, 90th Division.
These pictures were taken the on the last day of the war. His infantry unit was on the way to Prague, Czechoslovakia. They had entered into the town of Kolence when they were told that the war was over. He's the 19 year-old sitting behind the water-cooled machine gun.
