A Short Range Review

So off to a local indoor gun range this morning with my new Taurus M605 Revolver to see how it shoots.

One word. (WOW) that’s it!!
Just kidding. This revolver is built to handle 357 Magnum and of course 38Sp.
All I had was 38 Special but this is a sweet smooth shooter.

I had 4 Flyers out of my first 20 but otherwise not to bad, I did find out quickly that I did much better shooting with just my strong hand (right)
The action “response on trigger pull” was smooth with very little recoil.
After pulling the hammer back the trigger was very light and crisp.
I will say I shot much better with the Taurus then my dads old S&W 38Sp. All shots are at 15 feet and I did notice as can be seen in the target picture of a tear in the paper below each hole, not sure if this is caused by the bullet tumbling but I wouldn’t think so at such a short distance.
All in all I’m impressed with this small gun and feel comfortable carrying it.

Nothing wrong with that there deadeye, Taurus revolvers are underrated for some reason, never had any problems with the 2 that I owned

Good looking wheel gun!
Congrats again and nice range session 👍🕺🕺

I have 2 Taurus 5 shot .38's and I really like them. I did have a problem with one, though. The firing pin return spring would get stuck in a compressed position. This allowed the pin to hang loose and protrude into the cylinder gap, rather than retract, which would prevent closing or rotating the cylinder. Bad.

Easily fixed with a new spring (just a few bucks), but I could not tell the difference between the new and old spring. Nor could I find any burrs or problems in the firing pin recess. Problem fixed, but it bothers me that I couldn't figure out why.

Anyway, enjoy your new gun!

I bought a Taurus 856 awhile back, and liked it so much that I later picked up an Ultra-Lite model. I've heard good things about the 605, but have never fired one. I'd like to think that I could easily handle .357 Mag. in a small, light snub nose. .38 Special +P is pretty tame in my 856, but it gets a little more rowdy in the Ultra-Lite. If .357 ever starts showing up on shelves again, I may be tempted to add a 605 to the safe.
