I salute all those that served by posting this poem that appeared in the book History and Rhymes of the Lost Battalion, by Lee Charles "Buck Private" McCollum, who served with the men of the 308th Infantry Regiment led by Major Charles Whittlesey. This unit along with several others, roughly 554 men, were isolated by German forces during World War I after an American attack in the Argonne in October 1918. Roughly 197 were killed in action and approximately 150 missing or taken prisoner before the 194 remaining men were rescued. Below is a link for those who might like to read their story as described in Pt.McCollum's own words, "This volume dedicated to the memory of "My Buddies" who gave their all "Up There."
