This story is kind of vague in details. This happened back in November. Was it the suspects car or the victim's car? There was a gun in the car, which the victim used to shoot him with. This headline makes it sound like she carried a gun, which she obviously didn't. Glad she survived.

"the male driver had been shot by a firearm that was inside the vehicle,” and it was the victim who pulled the trigger."

Is it really that hard to write "The intended victim was armed and shot the suspect"? Or "The intended victim got found a gun in the vehicle and shot the suspect."? Which ever way it played out.

I think they go out of their way not to say that a citizen successfully defended themselves with a gun.

Appears she shot him with a firearm in the kidnappers truck. Either the one he took her at gunpoint with or a different one in the truck.

“From Borger Chief of Police Donnie Davis:
On Friday November 17th at approximately 3:40pm, officers with the Borger Police Department were dispatched to a disturbance in the 1200 block of Indiana Street. While en route, the caller stated that the suspect and victim had left the scene in a vehicle and that the female was possibly being held against their will. Officers then spotted a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and began attempting to evade Borger Officers towards Fritch. The suspect continued through Fritch before coming to a stop near the Potter County line. It was found that the male driver had been shot by a firearm that was inside the vehicle prior to stopping. The driver was transported to an Amarillo hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The female passenger was also evaluated at a local hospital. The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing at this time.”

It could be the victim was not allowed to own or posses a firearm.
Being kidnapped and defending herself owning a firearm could put her in hot water.
Possibly the local PD is being vague as to not incriminate this woman. ??
Pure hypothetical, but not out of the realm based on the PD being vague on details in their press release.
