Ammo Shortage Creating Lines at the Gun Shops

Good link Anni. I read in one article, people were camping out overnight like it was "Black Friday", to be first in line for a shipment of ammunition at a place in Orlando Florida I believe.
Here's another article on the ammo shortage:

Good link, thanks for posting it grasshopper

This is the first article I have read where any ammo company exec attempted to address what they are calling "heavy shooters". I'm glad they are aware of it, but I don't think the Vista rep has a realistic view. He seems to think that shooters who shoot over 10,000 rounds per year are "working through their stash" and will return to the market when they deplete their personal supply.

In my area, shooters who used to fire 10,000 rounds per year are now shooters who fire 1,000 centerfire rounds per year. My range is no longer full of the usual shooters dumping endless mags from multiple guns. The few people I see on the range are either new shooters taking a course, or experienced shooters firing .22 LR like me. The article makes it seem like the Vista rep thinks its business at usual at the range. I'm not sure he realizes how much this is hurting the local ranges. Maybe ranges in his area are doing fine, but my LGS/range is pretty empty most days.

When I went to pick up my Ruger 22/45 Lite yesterday, my shop actually had some 9mm, 45acp and 40s&w, and 22lr, some 5.56 also, gun selection is not what it used to be several weeks ago, but they had guns and ammo.
I'm hoping it carries over to my area. I buy my guns from one of several LGS in my area, whenever possible, but I've always bought my ammo at the Academy or Bass Pro near my home. For months over the summer and fall I could routinely find a few boxes of 9mm, 45 acp, or 40 S&W on the Bass Pro website most nights around midnight.

The 9mm disappeared first, and the others followed shortly after. I haven't found a single box of pistol ammo in stores or online in almost a month. Any lead target shotgun shells are gone too. There's plenty of high-end 3" steel loads online, but not a single box of anything except 28 gauge in either store. I have more ammo on hand right now than I normally do, but that's only because I've stopped shooting, not because I've bought any ammo.

I've waited in line at Academy once, and that was the end of that nonsense. Not doing it again.
I tried once myself a few months back because I was in the area one morning. I was able to get a few boxes of .300 Blackout, but no handgun ammo. My local Academy holds some of the stock back to put out around dinnertime a few nights a week, so I have been able to get a few boxes that way. Even then, it's probably been a month or more since I've seen handgun ammo on shelves at Academy.

My area has been a desert since March 2020. Several large businesses have just dropped carrying any ammo at all. It is really sad to be truthful. Several local gun stores are only selling ammo with a purchase of a firearm or one box per week. The gun stores are as we all know are also having difficulty in stocking firearms.
There's absolutely no defensive ammo to be had.
I've NEVER seen it this bad.

Our local Dick's took out their entire hunting section last year, and our Walmart stopped carrying handgun ammo. I'm not sure the Dick's move really affected things. I live in a very conservative town and most of us stopped buying anything from Dick's when their CEO decided being an SJW was more important than his customers. I'm actually amazed that they are still in business because nobody I know in town will shop there.

The Walmart situation had more of a direct effect. I've only seen an employee actually working the gun counter a few times in my entire life, but there were apparently a lot of people who bought their ammo there (I have no idea how). I'd hoped that Walmart leaving the market would make more ammo available to Academy and Bass Pro, but it doesn't look like that happened.
