And The Moose Said “Not In My Woods”

Agreed, the article doesn’t mention the type of gun but having to wait an hour for someone to show up with a rifle to end what is truly moose 1 dogs 0 is sad.
I've read about this in a different article and the woman was foolish enough to carry a .380 into dangerous animal territory.

Apparently she expended all her rounds into the moose and it did nothing as expected for such a low powered round.

Not a wise choice, perhaps she was thinking about just having to deal with smaller predators and didn’t take into account the king of the woods.

.380 , for real? I wouldn't think of anything less than 44 mag in such an area. Moose, bear, wolves, they're gonna need more than 380 to slow em down. If in fact this woman was only toting a 380, she should have been better prepared. All that gun did was to anger the bull. It's an absolute shame, those dogs were tortured because of her actions.

I have described this event before but will add it again as some new member might not have seen it.

In June of 1987 we went to Yellowstone . We were camping each night using tents. So after a very cold night , and little sleep for me , I got up and started stoking up the camp fire to warm up and get coffee going. I hear something and look up to see a cow moose and a yearling wandering into the campsite nest to ours. The people had a regular camper but had left their lawn chairs sitting out. One was a recliner type.

So as I watch the cow , she walks up to this recliner and gives the back a nudge forward. Well the recliner folded up with a clang and what transpired after was a sight I will never forget. Almost as soon as the back folding up made the clang noise , the moose had spun around and kicked the recliner with her rear legs which sent the recliner tumbling across the camp site. Just as fast as the chair was tumbling she spun around to face the chair and proceeded to stomp it into an unrecognizable mass of webbing and aluminum .

As all this was unfolding I was wishing I had something to get in besides the tent. However after stomping the recliner , the moose and her calf calmly walked back into the woods from where she had emerged.

After seeing how the chair was demolished , I am amazed that those dogs were not all killed. The speed those things have is truly astounding.

Wow if carrying a .380 wasnt bad enough I wonder just how many times she hit the moose. I think in this kind of situation if a big bullet is good a bigger bullet is better. Especially with lots of its friends. My hunting partner encountered a moose on the run once and said the only safe place was on the other side of the mountain. He said it was shocking watching it not run through the trees but over them. The moose left quite a path.

Plain and simple the lady is an idiot and her dogs payed the price.
The only thing a .380 is good for in Alaska is shooting yourself if you run out of all other options and the last song has been sung. lol
I been living here going on 40 years. I got moose all over my place, daily, thick as thieves.
Just the other night this brute passed thru. The top of the gate is 44 inches off the ground.
.380? Im just sayin...

Ive got folders of this stuff from over the years lol I could do this for days.

Shame for the dogs and the moose, looks like a case of humans thinking they are top of the food chain just by being humans, carrying a .380 might fly in a humans world But the moment you step outside the "comfort zone " of everyday life you better realise that you enter a world where there is only 1 winner and its got 4 legs not 2 if you do pick a fight you better be prepared to bring enough firepower to be able to walk away
