Charlie Pride passes away at 86

Charley Pride, Country Music's First Major Black Star, Dies At 86

Pride died Saturday from complications of COVID-19 in Dallas. The baritone-voiced singer was the first Black man inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Sad news , and I was unaware that Charley played in the Negro Baseball League before being drafted into the US Army. His early dream was to make it to the Major League. RIP Charley.

Charley Pride lived in MT for nine years playing minor league baseball and starting his singing career, then left in 1969 when his singing career started taking off.

He was a great singer. He played in Houston in the beginning opening up for another Country main group. The crowd was not happy he was African American. By the time he was done on stage, they were extremely fond of him and could care less.
