Another edition of relaxing range time with Bill the crayon eater.

So my jar head pal Bill is an ex-combat marine ( Desert Storm). He's my age and I have known him since grade school. He did 12 years in the corps and now is a federal security officer downtown. Anyway, he was an armorer, but he doesn't make any sense ( he is a jarhead after all). His only AR is a BCA flat top, until a few minutes ago he thought a red dot was a laser, he's sitting on about 1200 rounds of TulAmmo 5.56 and the last two times we went to the range it didn't go well for him because of it. The last time his extractor broke and he had a live round stuck in the chamber. This time out he lubed the crap out of the gun and it ran okay for awhile, but then a spent case got stuck in the chamber. Then another. So he breaks it down, gives it a quick clean and it runs another 30 before he puts it away and switches to handguns. Which surprisingly he had a Walther. This dude normally buys low rent pieces of crap like the Taurus G2. I had to help him get rid of the thing awhile back. He sold it to another idiot I know. At least I am familiar with the guts having worked on it several times now so when my other friend breaks it I might know how to fix it. :)

So Billy bought this stainless steel Stoeger 20 gauge coach gun last week. It's actually a not too bad little HD gun. Made in Brazil. He ran about 100 through it at some steel I had my buddy cut with his plasma cutter. I had maybe 10 or 12 out at different ranges, complete with simulated cover in sort of a mock 3 gun set up. I was running the Beretta. It was funny as hell watching Bill trying to do reloads with this brand new, super stiff double barrel.

I only ran about 200 through the shotgun, as I said, this was meant to be relaxing. Last night I put a JMT 4 lb trigger in my .223 Wylde so I shot some steel at 100, 150 and 200 yards. I also recently put a bi-pod on it and it was the first time I had it out with the bi-pod. I like it a lot. I was shooting IMI 193 and getting pretty impressive groups. Scope is a Bushnell Elite 6500 which is worth more than the gun it sits on. It's not a fancy long range tack driver, but I enjoy shooting it.

I put another 150 through the P30L. Damn I like that gun. Slide is getting shipped off to XDMan Monday for some TFX Pros.

All my guns run like scalded dogs so I think my relaxing time at the range was more relaxing than Bill's. But he's a window licker so.....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I almost forgot the best part and the reason I pointed out that Bill doesn’t ( or didn’t) even realize a red dot wasn’t a laser.

So this flat top he has, which I’m sure reminds him very much of the rifle he carried in the corps, obviously has a fixed front sight on it. Bill these days shoots minute of bad guy at 50 yards, but at 100 he hit the 12” Cartman ( from South Park)/ snowman I hung out there maybe 2/10 shots. I got him talked into going into his wallet a little bit and putting a scope on it. Bill the armorer wants to know if I’d have to cut his front sight off. Now I know times have changed and tech has advanced in the 20-ish years since he was in the corps, but it doesn’t make sense that I work on his guns and not the other way around.
It also doesn’t make sense that he buys cheap crap and shoots worse than me.

Oh well, he’s my bro so I bought him a cantilever mount and will mount a scope on his antique ass rifle. Now I’m going to talk him into at least buying a free floating railed upper and a red dot so he can get his ass out and take some classes with me.

I will say he has exceptional skill with swords and knives.

What was his job in the Corps ? ……… Cook 😜😜😜🤪🤪🤪

Honestly, sounds like my kind of guy.
Bill is a great guy. In grade school he was skinny as a rail and wore glasses. He took a lot of heat, which made me like him and stand up for him. After that, he didn't have to take any more heat. His mom was a teacher and his dad was an ex marine and a Missouri State Trooper. He is highly intelligent and very well read. By high school he was the guy voted most likely to live on a fenced in compound with guard towers and rottweilers running loose. Very anti-social. Married his high school sweetheart and joined the corps right after he graduated. He was also very vocally atheist. He is now on fire for Jesus and a very philosophical guy. After his first 4 years in the service he gained about 125 pounds of muscle and an appreciation for drinking and bar fighting. He has a son and a daughter, both military. I think Ian just got out after 8 years.

By all accounts a strange and interesting dude. I'm sure he would make some pyschologist very happy.

Bassbob, I would like to make one correction in the above post. My father-in-law was a DI stationed at Paris Island for 12 years. (He's since passed) but I digress. He stated "your never an ex your always a former". God Bless that jar-head.
