Any experience with the BRP XMG?

Years ago BRP made a rather ingenious AR/M-16 upper out of the MG34 that they dubbed the XMG. It's just about the most cost effective way to build a 8mm Mauser or 308 belt fed (adaptability to either round exists with the upper with a modification).

Anyhow, this upper allowed you to add an AR lower as the fire control group. I have been wanting to build a belt fed chambered in 308, and this was a creative way of going about it. Sadly, they're sold out at BRP and don't know when they're getting enough parts to build another batch. The ATF in their wisdom declared this upper a firearm, so adding a full auto receiver to one is considered making a post 86 machine gun, but with the advent of rapid fire semi auto triggers I'm intrigued about being able to bring the MG34 to life with a semi auto lower.

Does anyone have any experience with this upper? And better yet resources where one might acquire one other than BRP? There's one on Gunbroker, but whoever is selling it is being ridiculous in their asking price.
