Anyone hunted in Colorado?

BangBang

Professional
Wanting to go hunting in CO. Anyone hunted there? My Paw-In-Law has hunted there several times. Dove Creek, has had some success but we are wanting to go to a different spot. Didn’t know if anyone has hunted there or know or heard of any good spots.

CO has a multi-tiered hunting season, and being in the west a lot of country to chose from the many hunting districts.

One must be aware of access issues in hunting districts with a lot of mixed ownership. Getting to pubic lands isn't always guaranteed when you have to go through private lands.

Yeah, that’s what I’m aware of. Hunting on private land would be my preferred way of going. I wouldn’t mind hunting BLM land. Unit 711 or something like that?

That will cost you a lot of money. Ranches/guides charge a substantial fee for hunting on private land.
Yeah it will. I don’t mind it, if it pays off. A buddy has a friend with some land in Le Veta for a decent price, just doesn’t know if he has anything open. I am all about public land, if I could find or knew a spot that I could go to.

I have been there 6 times and this Nov will be my next trip going to a new spot this year. I have taken a 5x5 bull 5 years ago and 2 years ago I taken a wide 4 point mule deer. I go every other year with a group of friends and family. Hunt in the national forest no guides. Waiting to see if I drew a tag for a cow and antler mule deer the draw is June 1 and results will be given between June 1 to the 5. Bull tag are over the counter were I go I think some are draw only. You will have to apply before the beginning of April for the draw. You will have to get a CID# and need a hunter education card unless you were born before Jan 1, 1949. If you hunt on your own a little tip do not cross a fence onto a ranch you can get into trouble. They charge just to cross their land to get to BLM land. Hope you go, lots of fun and lots of work to get them out.

Yeah I’m trying to work it out. Can get a bull tag over the counter and if they have any cow tags left over wouldn’t mind getting one of those. I found 3 units that appeal to me just trying to narrow it down. Congrats on your bull and muley.

Thanks. Got the result for my mule deer tag today no good hoping for the cow tag. The secondary draw starts on June 5 *p.m. MT. Do you have your hunter safely card you will have to carry it with you and to apply for a tag. Unless you were born before Jan 1, 1949. Also you will have to buy a Nonresident Small Game Annual license and a Habitat stamp before you can apply for a tag. That will cost you $92.91 before you can even apply for a tag or buy a bull tag.

Yes I have my hunter safety card. I appreciate the info on the extra stuff. I have narrowed it down to unit 70 and 211 and possibly 13.

Good luck in the draw. I have hunted in unit 15. Now I'm going to unit 441 this year. If you go you can take your hunter ed card to a CPW office and get verified then you won't have to carry it with you when hunting. I did but still carry it just in case. Main thing is to have fun and enjoy getting something is just a bonus. Anything else I can help you with just ask.
