AR’s have become more popular for hunting in recent times.
Not just weapons of war 😉😊

I enjoy using my FAL and Saint .308 for taking game or hogs as well

Been using this Springfield Victor during deer season for several years now.

Abut I,d for hiking the hills, but the AR platform has so many caliber options, it is overwhelming. If you can’t find a caliber for what you want to hunt, there is something wrong.
you can get them in nearly every caliber from 17 to 50 cal, but cartridges are going to be the limitations! from .378" to .473" bases that are short actioned or less are easy to get, but can be a pita to function in an ar. short mag cartridges have a fault via mag follower as no company makes followers and mags that are reliable in ar's. 1 company in WY or MT has it nailed by using acis mags designed to work in an ar style firearm. single stack single feed with a bolt designed to work in his ar design. now if there was a double stack single feed i'd be all over it!

what i need is a 3d printer and know how to work it to make followers for ar10 mags that can reliably feed and function for short mags. feedlips aren't an issue on the feeding or functioning, just the follower causing the issues. the 6.5prc and 7saum i have that ARE ar10's feed fine as long as i don't load more than 4 rounds in a 10, 20 or 25 round mag whether it be poly or steel.

Not a fan but whatever floats your boat, no reason they won’t work, assuming you use “enough” cartridge for the game you are hunting. I enjoy a challenge so I stopped using centerfires to hunt with decades ago, and use only traditional, round ball, muzzleloaders.

My favorite .45 cap lock is 6 1/4 lbs. My favorite 50 flinter (longer tube) is 6 lb 10 Oz. My .32 runs a hair over 5 lbs. Used to hunt a lot of varmints-had a Ruger 77V in .220 Swift with a 6 x24 scope-THAT bad boy was a shooter but a pita to carry at 13 1/2 lbs😳. Used my Sako Vixen carbine in .222 (5 3/4 lbs) a LOT more.

I put together a 7.62x39 for "hunting".... yeah, thats the ticket.

I have a five round mag for it. The limit in Colorado when I was there. Building it had nothing to do with my declaring that I had too much (really?) 7.62x39 Golden Tiger squirrelled away and no way to shoot it beyond my mint Romanian SKS and not desire to own an AK.
