Is the .45acp still the best 1911 round, I would say yes, but now, the 10mm is really making a big comeback, plus you still got the 9mm and an old favorite, the .38super.

 
The best 1911 round is the 9x23 Winchester.

I carry a .45 every day. I also have a 10mm. I have killed large hogs with both guns and they dropped like a stone in both cases. One of the hogs was a 240lb charging sow and one shot with the 45 acp stopped her cold. My philosophy has always been, if you want to stop a critter, you want to let the blood out, in addition to other damage that you might do, and I believe larger holes let the blood out faster.
