Batteries And How Long Do They Last

So when I had AR Platform rifles I had lots of scopes and different configurations of red dot optics, not surprisingly they all or most took the CR2032 battery so over the years I stocked up on them.
When I got my first Holosun red dot wouldn’t you know it uses the CR1632
Not having any backup of that size I started looking around to pick some up, I found out quickly they are hard to find.
I stopped at a (Batteries+Bulbs) today and was able to pick up a two pack but I had a question, how long do they last when still in the packaging?

I have (14) 2032 in packs that were made in 5/2017 and I figured by now they would be dead but the clerk said they usually last about 10 years.

The CR1632 2 pack I bought is dated to be good until the year 2032 now I plan on changing them out after a year on my two Holosun’s just be on the safe side but it got me to thinking about how long they will really last??

I've had batteries in a few Holosun 510c sights for a couple years now and they are still kicking.

One of these is mounted on my bedside piece that gets moved to a safe every morning. I thought with the shake awake always on feature that the battery would have been long past dead but it keeps on ticking.

Not sure why you are finding it hard to get 1632 batteries in your area. They and other coin batteries are available by the truckload from Amazon and they are dirt cheap.

The ones I got today are an off brand made for (Batteries Plus) I’ll use them as an emergency backup while I continue to look for a name brand.
Quite possibly you are victim to the Christmas battery phenomenon. In the past I have found many types of batteries to be scarce this time of year.

What with all the electronic toys and other electronic gifts and then the light up and animated decorations there is often a run on batteries of all type.

Lithium are lighter, but don't have the charge capacity as NiMhd/NiCad. I've watched scientists do test on the difference and what a difference it is. The non-lithium are more dense is the reason and can have more shelf life also.
