Trust me, fighting in the monsoon season was about as nasty in the Nam. Watching the fungus grow on you and the **** sores becoming more inflamed and infected was no fun. On another topic, I doubt that Dugout Doug ever visited the battlefield. As shown by Bataan and every other field of battle, EXCEPT the Philippines (where the cameras were rolling) he was content to sit it out in his HQ, far behind the lines. Sorry about the rant, but he is always proclaimed to be a strategic genius, but my readings depict a different person.

You are spot on about Dugout Doug. Un-revised history shows he was asleep at the wheel at very critical moments during the big one and Korea. Definitely asleep when Pearl took it also.
