Thanks for the heads up buddy! Really though, don’t ever rely on google maps for the fastest route. We were redirected to 408 because of a multi car crash. Ended up on the turnpike in bumper to bumper traffic going about 10MPH forever…then had to stop about four times within 5 miles to pay tolls. 😒🙄. I tell you, I would drive through the Twin Cities through a blizzard before I want a repeat performance of that!

Should've put in the scenic route for preference :censored:

as a former trucker, i know the benefits of EZ Pass....there are other toll passes out there as well, and some are accepted everywhere. Best to check which ones are accepted all over the USA....!!!

but for the once in a blue moon traveler, or one that does not venture out of his/her state, it makes no sense to purchase this device. UNLESS your state tolls you..!!!!!!!

EVERYONE.........be forewarned for the future.....many states are now tearing down tolling booths, in favor of the overhead gantry's which will the read the EZ PASS code and charge accordingly as they do now...(this makes traffic flow smoother AND faster)

but if one does NOT have an EZ PASS, be prepared to get a Bill in the mail some time later, for those tolls AND......which may or may not include surcharges for not having an EZ Pass..!!!!!

they "consider" those surcharges as "administrative fee's" for doing a DMV search on your plate, mailing the toll to you, etc, etc,etc....

I feel your pain, we lived in Tampa Bay area for 20 years. You can get a Sunpass for all Florida toll roads at Publix supermarkets to ease the toll booth problem. The turnpikes are usually your best option. But all of the roads in that part of the state are a snarled mess and have been for years, especially around the holidays. Then some moron causes a major pileup to make things worse. I 95 has always been a nightmare and I 75 is getting that way.

Fortunately you can pretty much ignore those bills.

i am not certain of that.

theft of services, and a possible suspension of the car's plate/registration can happen.

when i was at a trucking company HQ'd in NJ, it was common practice to not only fine the company for non payment, but to also suspend the plate on the truck. this is why we drivers caught hell if we blew thru a toll plaza with an EZ Pass transponder that was defective, or the account was low.

we got suspended as well.

first offense for us drivers was a written warning, after that suspension.

if i recall, the fine was, $35, plus double the toll cost.......back then the George Washington Bridge toll was like $50...so add another $50, + the $35 fine, made for an unhappy company manager, as the Terminal where the driver was out of, got zapped with all that, not HQ......

i only got 1 warning, i wasn't about to test the waters anymore after that.

if the EZ Pass was not working, or the account was low, what we had to do was go thru the toll, pull over, park, go inside the toll office building and sign a form for the company to pay the toll with no fines.

there would be warning signs stating at the toll plaza...."ACCOUNT LOW", so no excuse not to go inside and sign that form.

I'm certain of it even if you aren't.

i'd not recommend that people do not pay the toll Bill.

DISPUTE, BUT DON’T IGNORE

While some motorists might simply ignore what they view as an erroneous charge, there are good reasons to avoid doing so. To start, while tolls are never anyone’s favorite part of driving, the money collected is used for ongoing construction or regular road upkeep. Consider that while a toll might seem a nuisance, so are potholes.

A stronger incentive to avoid ignoring an out-of-state toll is the increasing amount of toll reciprocity between states. This means a driver could encounter increasing fines for ignoring a charge, or be blocked from renewing licensing or updating vehicle registration.

Tip: Whenever I had to drive over that way or back on a case or for a meeting I made it a point to go at 4 am. Then have breakfast near my destination. But not sure even that would help nowadays.
We pretty much do that. We try to avoid morning rushes and do a hundred or so miles on before breakfast

We paid with cash. It’s a pain in the hind quarters but it’s done and no surprise bills. We did the flashy license plate thing on the San Antonio bypass several years ago and never received a bill. Perhaps thing have evolved.

cash is best, but as in my posting, toll plazas are coming down, and gantry's are going up, to allow faster, safer traffic flow.

everyone will (or should) obtain an EZ Pass (or what ever a state issues) for traveling on toll roads.

at one time, not all transponders were accepted everywhere, now many are, making the purchase of 1 all inclusive transponder rather than several.

the biggest toll plaza now coming down is t the George Washington Bridge, in NYC.

that place is one huge bottleneck, for traffic back ups.

I had EZ Pass on the truck I rented in STL and drove to Donna Texas and back. The rental company failed to tell me this and I double paid a few times. Then when I returned the truck, a few weeks later a couple more toll bills came in the mail. F those bills. And I have friends that roll through Oklahoma weekly and they ignore the tolls and have for years.

We’ll probably be traveling more often down here as I have to move my mom from Canada down to Winter Park in the new year. My brother is also moving down here from my mom’s house in San Antonio and we have to sell that thing…so I foresee lots of travel in my near future. EZPass sounds like the way to go.

They send you a bill with a link to images of your vehicle taken at the toll, the shadow of the gantry with cameras are clearly visible in this image. 2018 crossing the Ohio river.
