Best height rings for M1a scope

I purchased a Vortex 5 x 25 scope with a 30 mm tube and a 50 mm objective lens. The shop where I purchased it tried to set it up with 3 inch Leopold rings and had problems confirming the zero and level. I think that the rings are too high. I am aware that the there are 2 shorter versions of the rings. I have a friend that set up a similar scope with 1.5 inch high rings. Is that correct?

Depending on the mount you're using on an M1A you should use rings that allow the eye portion of the scope to clear the rear sight.

That being said not all M1A mounts are the same.

Because M1A scope mounting is typically much higher than on a bolt-gun in doing so you shouldn't have any problems on the objective end if the rear clears the rear sight.
