Biggest Alone screwup to date

Sld1959

Ronin
Was just watching the first episode of the new season of Alone. Having watched every episode to date I believe this guy made the biggest screwup to date in the history of the show. He was walking with an arrow nocked, dumb dumb dumb, did i mention thats dumb, and somehow bent over and rammed the broad head deep into his thigh.

Ouch, that's a biggie, lucky he missed the artery. Needless to say his game is over.

On the 60 plus years shooting bow i have seen similar things many times. Usually, the person jabs themselves in the back of the calf as they walk and swing thier arm with the bow. Used to happen a whole lot with the old original quicky quiver that had no hood over the broadheads.

Have not seen the show, but agree 100% of your observations.

Like walking with a gun not on safe, finger on trigger, and have it pointed at your legs ..

I saw that episode.
The guy claims to be a expert hunter/outdoors-man/trapper, bowman, etc.
I was wondering why would anyone with so called experience do such a thing ❓

That hunting arrow went in deep and they medivac him out of the game❗

I myself don’t watch those types of shows, there all staged just like mountain men, naked and afraid and such, just not my cup of tea, especially hate AGT, dancing with the stars…….boring………
Alone is as close to a reality show as you can get. The 10 contestants are dropped off in the wilderness in late fall with their gear and 50 lbs. of camera gear. They do all the videotaping of themselves with no camera crew. They are given emergency gear like a first air kit, bear spray, a satellite cell phone and GPS locator, etc. The only contact with others is the once a week medical checkup where they are only allowed to answer questions asked by the medical staff. Every morning they get a text asking if they are OK and must respond in one hour or the emergency crew goes looking for them. In that case if the crew goes in looking for them it is an automatic tap out. Over the previous 10 season I can only remember that happening once.

The location of this competition varies, but it is always in a harsh northern environment. This year they are above the arctic circle. As the competition to survive wears on, some contestants will lose so much weight they are pulled from the competition for medical reasons.

The most skilled contestant over the previous 10 seasons in my opinion was Jordan Jonas in season 6 who excelled at shelter building, hunting (killed a moose with a bow, and a wolverine with an ax), and fishing through ice.

Alone is my favorite show and I armchair quarterback every week.

Didn't see this show, but have seen similar in real life!!!

Why did you give it up, if I may ask.
It is kind of a long story, Sid, but the summary is that after a long layoff due to other issues in my life, I picked my bow back up and after a practice session I could barely move my shoulder the next day. I have (at 74) been thinking about buying a very light weight bow and trying to work my way back. Things would probably be easier if I wasn’t quite so frugal,

Perhaps, but think of the exercise your arms and back will get when you start back up. And the hours upon hours of zen thought is priceless. And, if you hunt there is always the meat and priceless time in the woods.

Give it a thought, you can usually find cheap archery equipment at yard sales and estate sales.

And who says a practice session needs to be an hour, 10 minutes for the first few weeks will do wonders and you will quickly move up.

I love my recurve, but after a shoulder injury I had to go to a compound for a time. I ended up getting a cheap one, turning way down, ripping all the crap sights and other crap off and learned to shoot it instinctively with fingers. Did not like it as well but it got me on the range and in the woods.

My dad stopped shooting at 90.

What about a Crossbow❓

They have crossbows with lil hand cranks to easily and quietly pull the drawstring back ❗
