Black rifle almost had me

Well it too a few years to catch on in the market. But when it did - whew!
There may be more to that. Come to think of it, it was only after the design became public domain, did AR-15 sales explode. Before that, only Colt sold them and they didn't market them to much, sure a few adds here and there, and IIRC, they were expensive....

Suddenly anyone could build and sell one, and they were off to the races...

Wait...What? There’s still people who don’t own an MSR?!
I don't own a MSR. I have in the past(Ruger's version).

Before my neck surgery I had an FNFAL and liked it a lot. 308 and adjustable gas port. What's not to love...:) It was a heavy mother but very fun to shoot.

I never could bond with AR15/M16s. The M16-A1 I shot in the Marine Corps always felt like a toy to me.

I've had the privilege of shooting an M1 Garand. I owned a CETME rifle for awhile. Those rifles were much more appealing to me than any M16/AR15 ever was.

Maybe I need to go the cheap route and get a Hi-Point Carbine in 40 S&W or 10 mm...:):):):)

Inflation has seen to it that you'll probably never be able to build a gun that you'd bee happy with for less than a basic M&P 15 or Ruger 556.
I guess that depends on what your expectations are. I've built a couple ( And I didn't even really build them, I bought complete uppers and assembled stripped lowers) that I am happy with for less than what an M&P costs for sure.

You can fully build an Aero M4E1 for about $500.
You can fully build a $2500 Wilson Combat Recon rifle for about $800-$900.

Using all Aero parts including an Aero BCG with a Ballistic Advantage barrel (stock Aero barrel brand), with Magpul stock & grip, your more in the $700-$900 range depending on a few other options.

You can definitely build out an Aero M4E1 receiver set for shorter money while using some other brands of parts mixed in.

What parts does a basic M&P or Ruger have on it ? Probably not Magpul.

They do have magpul grips and stocks now, the Sport 2 was just mil spec.

But they do have treated Thompson Center barrels since Smith & Wesson owns Thompson Center.

M&P BCGs are also well made despite not being full auto.

And Ruger has been using magpul in their 556 line since the start.
The M&P rifles I've seen leave a lot to be desired in terms of build quality. I've witnessed badly staked castle nuts and gas keys on a few M&P rifles.

As for Magpul being used there are different tiers of quality in these products that vary greatly in price.

Aero makes a great product that punches above it's weight class for fit and finish.

Aero has been my go to for build your own rifles for years.
Their QC rep took a hit around the pandemic, they once had a sterling rep but a few batches were not well machined.

Once upon a time Aero was white labeled by a few brands, allegedly Stag being one.

As you know, it's such an incestuous industry and modular platform that Aero and a number of companies are all using the same parts mostly. There are only five or six barrel makers supplying them all as it is.

Unless you're an elite shooter, collector or gun snob, an LWC or Daniel Defense is just going to be a waste of money on the average plinker and occasional hog shooter.

If you build an Aero, some PSAs, or buy an M&P 15, Ruger 556, Saint, Sig Tread, Stag Arms, or Windham, the average shooter is going to be just as content with the product as the Colt, Daniel Defense, Geissele, LaRue, LWC, Wilson Combat, Sons of Liberty crowd.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. I didn't compare Aero to LWRC or any other higher end AR maker. My statement was that Aero is a better product than a standard M&P of the same price. The M4E1 receivers look better, have a wider magwell, and they allow for a short throw selector. The Aero S-One and R-One handguards are far superior to the M&P with a much nicer finish and a low profile mounting system that most budget brands don't offer.

If Aero to a hit on QC during COVID so didn't most companies and manufacturers during that period because of limited help from available workers.

I'm not here to defend Aero as I'm not a single brand loyalist for any company. I've put together my fair share of AR's to know the difference in component quality and PSA and the other budget tier builds are definitely a step lower than most Aero M4E1 builds.

Thought it was a pretty benign comment, not sure what you're arguing about nor why.

Lol I'm not arguing.

Sorry for the confusion, I know written text can carry a different tone but that wasn't my intention.

I thought I was respectfully replying back to the post of mine that you quoted with my opinion on AR builds.

Rereading my reply I can see how this may have been taken.
