Blind man gets carry license

Okay, so he got a carry permit. Now, let's see him actually purchase a firearm.

From a legal standpoint, a gun shop cannot deny him based on just blindness without opening themselves up to potential litigation (regardless of obvious logic, atleast this is what we were advised in TX). We had this situation in our gun shop with a dude who was almost fully quadraplegic. He had enough motor function in his right arm/hand to move it kind of... but definitely could not safely hold and operate a firearm.

A few of the staff were very unhappy at the prospect of selling a gun to him, but from a legal standpoint if we denied him based on that we could be sued. He couldn't finish the 4473 without assistance, so that was provided - which you cannot do, especially on the qualifying questions. So we used that as a reason to disqualify his 4473 before we ever sent it to NICS. Politely explained to the man that we would reach out if we get an approval back. The look of relief on the face of the aide charged with taking care of this man.... was priceless.

If the guy has a clean record what’s to prohibit him? Lots of “vision impaired” folks can still see well enough to get about and do things normally. As someone noted, deny him and the ADA’ll have your butt.
