I'm wanting to mix my own gun blue solutions and was wondering if any of you mix your own and would be willing to share your recipes? I've got one from American Gunsmith article and it states:
"The formula for the Niedner blue is: 2.5 oz. Nitric Acid 2 oz. Hydrochloric Acid 1 oz. Wire Nails 30 oz. Distilled Water You shouldn’t have any trouble finding wire nails and distilled water. The hydrochloric acid I use is 37 percent, and the nitric acid is 69 percent."
I'm planning on making this one and maybe one or two more and experimenting with them. May blue some axe heads and other things like shop hammers, wrenches...
