Capital One credit card company

Old_Me

SAINT
hey, i got this from another website i follow.

apparently a guy there had his Capital One credit card shut down, for making 2A purchases.

here are some excerpts..

"I have had this Capital One credit card since 2007. Last year they called me after making an $1100 or so purchase on 2 firearms from an online retailer and asked for details on what exactly I bought and why. There was another purchase that was around $800 from another online 2A retailer they asked about as well. They almost acted like it was an exorbitant amount that I spent on these 2 purchases even though I have habitually spent much more than that on this card; I had a $31,500 limit on it which was as high as they go from my understanding, but it was a flexible spending limit as well that meant I could spend more than that.'

"Found out this morning that Capital One closed my account entirely, so I called them to find out why. They would not tell me the exact reason except that it was for prior purchases that they essentially didn't like, and they would not be giving more info on what those purchases were that they didn't like. Additionally, the account can never be reopened. They said a letter is in the mail that says they had the right to terminate my account at any time in their terms/agreement that I apparently agree to when you use their card. Also for the record, I have never had a late payment in my life, nor have I ever paid interest on a credit card - I always pay in full every month."

and this from a 2A selling website

there was "talk" about this BS in the past, right now, i do have 2--Capital One credit cards, but up till now, no issues, and i have bought ammo with each one.....

if the above poster is telling the truth, and i'll give him the benefit of the doubt, as i cannot see why he'd be lying, who is Capital One to put such restrictions on 2A items..??

the drugs, or drug paraphernalia, i can also say is BS, as many states have legal weed now........i just do not know if they sell items to puff-puff on all that weed one buys...it's a legit business now too, in many states, isn't it..????

I Just used my Cap 1 card at my LGS yesterday for one of my firearms purchases (I use multiple CCs when buying several fireams at one time. It spreads out the payments when they come due each month). I've used the Cap 1 card several times there, hopefully I won't get a call like that guy did.

With all the A.I. (artificial ignorance) systems these big-banks now use, I wouldn’t think banks/cc’s would flag a charge and then allow for human intervention to follow up with a call to a customer…especially when the only alerts they usually send are based on charge amount limits.

Some fraudster can charge thousands $$$ online using your CC and after a dozen repeated bogus uses (commonly at gas stations) they may automatically cancel the card when no CCV code is entered or zip code is wrong. But never ever call to check if you made that/those purchases. In theses cases, a card is Declined until customer contacts them.

The card issuer has the right to refuse, but I would wonder what transpired on that phone call with that customer and the card issuer agent if is was more arbitrary personal reasons than policy.

It’s time we all read the fine print on our credit/debt card agreements and look for any addendums and revisions, and if necessary, adjust purchase method.

That doesn't make sense considering Bass Pro's credit card is issued by Capital One. I think there's more to the story than what you're buddy is telling you.
well, first...not my buddy, just a guy at the other site, and i picked up on that tale of woe.....

thought i'd share it here, to "see" if others have been getting any sort of notice, if not from Cap One, but any other CC company

yeah, usually the print is so tiny/fine, that even with my glasses, and yes, a magnifying glass, i still cannot focus on the fine print.

There is always another side to the story....maybe there are details here about this card user that have been omitted. Having said that, I like my local credit union's visa.
i too am sure there is more to the story, it was even mentioned by others at that other website, but we can only go with what was posted.

to be certain too, there were "postings" on a few other gun websites that i participate in, that members have told of thier credit card company's denying purchases of guns and ammo.

this will be a story that we should at least read about, if in the future, any of us go thru this.
