Just like any other caliber, the .22 calibers were built with a purpose in mind, however, that purpose reportedly started out with self-defense in mind, starting with the .22 Short of all things. Naturally, guys decided “what this thing needs is more gun powder” which spawned the whole .22 caliber genre we know today.

Have a few. .22lr are great for take the family out to the range to get some trigger time. Can blast away without any fatigue and have fun while training.

And .22Mag is awesome for a trail or pack.gun but could also be effective for self defense.

Hi,

I really enjoy my little cowboy gun. The single action and slower pace reload is very relaxing.

Some info in that article was new to me. I was not familiar with the .22 Hornet. Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I have a S&W K22 from the 50's that is a superb example of the gunmaker's art. Also a 617 6-shot from the 80's. I had a pair of Ruger single action Single Six 22's for CAS side matches but traded them off. I was on the hunt for years for a pair of Colt .22 Pacemakers but could never find them. These are cool guns that you can you can shoot all day without breaking the bank.
