Chicago concealed carry holder returns gunfire on carjacking suspect, wounding offender

The 45-year-old male victim was in his vehicle at approximately 1:27 a.m. on Monday in the 5500 block of West Chrystal Street in the Austin neighborhood when he was approached by an unknown male offender, according to the Chicago Police Department. The offender produced a handgun and fired shots at the victim, police said.

Luckily, the victim — reported to be a concealed carry license holder — was armed and returned fire. He struck the offender one time in the upper chest area.

Surprised the Chicago DA hasn't charged the victim (of the car jacking) with murder, given the location.
 
i help out a family member, by picking her up at her job, 5 nights a week. 3 of those nights, it can be after midnight, and by the time I get home, it can be just before 3AM...

as a result too, i have to drive thru a bad section or 2, of my area, to get home.

you had better believe my shirt is pulled up just enough to draw my side arm, if needed as there are several red lights, and stop signs, i must adhere to. of course, should i "see" someone of suspicious character, i ain't stopping for nuffin......

but, too many very dark areas, make that nearly impossible 100% of the time.

well i do not have "connections', but i can tell you my permit to carry from my local PD, is under the number of 10......

they just don't give them out all that easily.
 
Chicago politicians have often remind citizens to give up and surrender their cars, belongings, property rather than resist or confront their attackers. So yes, the armed law abiding victim can still be on hook later on, if only civilly. The defense always claims theres the element of mistaken identity under the darkness. You would not believe the excuses that come from the public defenders.

States Atty can also and would claim “mutual combatants” too, essentially refuse to prosecute both. This allows freeing up the already congested revolving door, rubber stamp process for more important court business - like allowing judiciary to meet their prescheduled tee times, as you can imagine, the links are packed at this time of the season.
