Just a few years ago, it was only found in eastern WY, but has quickly spread west.
 
It was found here in Mississippi in 2018 in one county and subsequently other counties, but not in the county I hunt. CWD has been found since the 60's in various places around the US, but has never been documented to make the jump from cervides to humans. Until it does, I will keep hunting deer and eating them. There are testing stations around our state, and testing is encouraged, but not required except on some limited hunts/areas. The main thing they do here when an area is found positive is prohibit supplemental feeding. For hunters that travel across state lines, most states require that the head be caped out and completely cleaned before travel, and all meat be deboned. At least here, CWD hasn't turned into the boogieman it was initially portrayed as. ----Something to stay aware of, but not terrified.
 
Many animal disease issues are Zooanotic. One of our dogs nearly died from Covid but we did not get it. Animals & birds live off dead, rotting animals and have no effect. Beagles are most often used in labs testing products for humans, STOP!! Animals are being treated with "human" therapy's, what goes around comes around. Are there more differences or likeness between species-2 or 4 legs. "If we could talk to the animals" Dr. Doolittle got that right. Has anyone worked with an animal communicator vs behavior specialist? We worked with a specialist in dog grief & loss when one dog shut down when our older one died. Human meds are given to animals. People need to be very mindful when breeeding animals for specific traits. Thinking of that if anyone knows of an available Shiloh Shepherd we are searching for a "non-puppy" one for a Counterbalance dog for my son. Rare breed. Hope the wasting disease is figured out.
