Cleaning Optic Glass

So I went to the range today to zero in the Holosun on my Elite Compact 10mm
I will say I didn’t have to touch the left/right adjustment I did have to raise the POI a full turn of the adjustment on the 507C I got it right where I wanted it.
That being said I noticed some spots on the glass of the optic and wanted to ask what is everyone’s suggestion on cleaning the coated glass without damaging it.

Any eye glass cleaner should be fine and won't harm the coating. You can apply the cleaner with a Q-tip or microfiber cloth.

Just make sure there isn't sand or grit on the optic before rubbing the lens because quartz and other minerals can scratch the glass. A can of compressed air can remove sand and other grit if need.

Actually @10mmLife if it has an AR coating on it. Anything with alcohol in it should be avoided.

I found the instructions on the optic and it does say use nothing with alcohol or acetone however what’s on the glass looks like some oil splatter, and I don’t think water will clean that off??

Let me add the spots are small so I’m not worried about them right now but just want to be prepared with something when it really needs cleaning.

You can pickup some lens wipes at your local CVS that should clean up your lens.

It's probably splatter from the lubrication on your pistol that heated up from firing it and stuck to the lens.

Micro fiber is pretty good at absorbing surface fluids and the cleaning wipes should take care of the residue.

I did get some anti fog lens wipes for my glasses from Amazon but the packaging doesn’t list what they are made with.

Any type of alcohol, methane, acetone, thinner and/or petroleum products is a NO! Some optics I've purchased came with a retractable brush on 1 end and a suction cup on the other. Those listed products can remove the coatings. Remember the older window tint when using Windex that it would change the color of the tint from black/smoke to purplish. Sprayway (I think the name is correct) was the only(?) 1 that was safe to use? Use a microfiber or a DVD cleaner cloth. Works for me!

A lot of optics come with a little cloth wipe. All my Romeo 5s did. In all the time I have had red dots though I have never needed to clean the lens.
And the Holosun did come with a micro fiber cloth for cleaning but if the tiny spots are gun oil won’t that just smear it on the glass?

The wipes I have can be used on camera lenses and they are coated so maybe they will work.

Pick up some of the premoistened lens wipes by Zeiss. Walmart carries them in their eye glasses section.

As mentioned above, Dawn dish soap. I make a mix of the soap and water in a small misting sprayer. Give a q-tip a spray and use a circular motion(from outside to inside) then flip and use the dry side. Repeat with a new q-tip until clean. Usually takes me 2-3 q-tips and takes about two minutes to do both sides. Shield Sights recommended this to me and it works better then anything else I have tried. I use the exact products Shield recommends. Make sure to blow off the dust first with an air compressor or canned air. Don't go hard on the lens. Let the surfactant do the work. The q-tip only needs to be slightly moist.
