Clips, Mags, and the 9mm Revolver

With some exceptions, the 9mm revolver utilize moon clips. These pieces of metal hold five rounds in a circular design, making dropping ammo and reloading pretty easy. Moon clips work exceptionally well and tend to be fairly cheap. The downside is that moon clips are flimsy, bend easily, and are kind of bulky.

My 2 revolvers, S&W 625JM and 610 use the moon clips, just sometimes it’s rough unloading the spent cases from the clips, I use the De-Mooner tool, this does help a good bit

I just checked online and most seem to say they work better in larger calibers. I have no moon clip revolvers FWIW.

That de-mooner tool is pretty good. I have a sp 101 in 9mm and its a big help

I think if you got used to the clip for the revolver it would be a lot easier to put a clip in your pocket the moon clips are bulky

I've been curious about the Charter Arms Pitbull series of revolvers for awhile. The 9mm, .380 ACP, .40 S&W, and 45 ACP Pitbulls use some type of cylinder design that doesn't require moon clips. I don't know anyone who owns one, but I'd probably take a chance if I found one at a decent price.

I own several Charter Arms Revolvers (Bulldog, Pathfinder, Mag Pug) and am a fan of the brand. It is just the Pitbull series that I have been unable to find at reasonable prices. I've seen them advertised online from time to time at prices in the S&W or Ruger range, but I've never actually seen a Pitbull on store shelves.

While I like my Charter Arms revolvers, and I always root for USA made underdogs, several of my Charter Arms products had to go back to the factory after less than 100 rounds fired. Charter has good customer service, and the defects were repaired free of charge, but I would like to see better quality control before the guns leave the factory. I will continue to enjoy my Charter Arms firearms (especially the Bulldog), but I probably won't buy another unless I am able to inspect the firearm prior to purchase. Reviews from shooters I personally know carry a lot of weight with me. I wish I knew more people who had owned or shot Pitbull revolvers. They just don't seem to be very common in my neck of the woods.
