Colorado Considering Ban on So-Called “Assault Weapons”

Old thread, but I just read that the bill is now expected to pass and be signed by the governor. Sad for Colorado and for all of us.

There are a lot of folks, even on our forum here, who have spent their working lives in states offering less freedom to citizens, but plan to move to a “free state” when they retire. I think Colorado has experienced a huge influx of people like that who are responsible (largely anyway) for the state they are leaving having less freedom. People bring their expectations of government with them, even if in a small way, and over time change the complexion of the free state. Nothing that I know of can change this trend, it is just that for someone who has spent their life in a free state and value that freedom it is so sad to see that changing because new people don’t really understand the true cost and value of freedom.

sadly when many of us retire, those plans to move to a "free state", get dashed due to one of several reasons, like health, family, economics, and other reasons that some (here) may never understand fully.

it just isn't all that easy to move away for some of us.

best to have moved away when younger, and reset those roots at an earlier time.

Pretty much this. I would leave if I could but my wife won't period, Full Stop, End Of Discussion.

The best compromise I can come up with is once or lease is up here we're moving to the Goat Ranch which isn't quite in the middle of nowhere but you can see it (the Middle of Nowhere) from there.

Once we're there we have no intention of leaving the property and going around people unless it's required.

I am in Missouri and tied to Columbia because my folks, who thankfully, are still alive. But when they go we could end up anywhere...but this is a gun friendly state, conservative except for the cities (where I, sadly, live) and reasonable in terms of cost of living. I would miss the change of the seasons if we went to someplace warm all the time...I don't know. But I think the last election has swung the pendulum back to a more reasonable/tolerable landscape.

I very much enjoy living in Missouri. I'm out in the sticks about 40 miles SW of STL, but I work in the city. The county mostly actually, but I was in south St. Louis for the last 2 days.
