Colt 1911 Government Model: The Quintessential .45

Good article... Thx.

Ya, I got one of the newer models. I have it displayed with the original civilian version of the M16A2 on my dresser draw. Both guns are the first I ever shot in my life, when I joined the Army in 1985. As a city boy in foster care, never got to shoot before then. Love them. and now I got a baker's dozen of 1911 .45's in my collection. ;)

I love the 1911 and own quite a few by many different makers. But there's just something about a Colt. It was the first and the one all others were judged by. The older Colt 1911s were the best.
But for about the last 30 years or so, union and management issues caused Colt's quality to slip badly. Frankly, other companies made much better 1911s and usually at a better price.
However, it seems that CZ has straightened all that out and reports are that the new Colts are as good as ever. (y)

i did have a "few" G' models, but i found that the sights just sucked. not only that, but more often than not, the finish would chip rather easily.. i got rid of all of them, in favor for SS or 2 tone, which i have yet to experience chips on the finish.

and 2 tone or SS just looks better...to me anyways.
