Crimes and weapons used

That’s a 25 year old document being used as a source...

Sadly, it is still a viable source due to a lack of additional unbiased studies. Leftists may scream that Republicans have stopped all gun violence research, but we all know that is not the case. The problem is that unbiased statistical evidence is extremely difficult to come by.

While the government does not prohibit universities from conducting gun violence research, any esteemed university publishing a study that did anything other than demonize firearms could expect donor/alumni support to suffer. Smaller universities and independent groups have more freedom to produce studies, but they face an uphill battle getting their results published or covered by the media.

This leaves us with modern research that is very likely to be biased in one direction or another, or older data. It is ridiculous that 25 year-old data would still be relevant, but absent the occasional unbiased DOJ/FBI study, we don't have much else to go one. Perhaps one day our institutions will make it a priority to find the truth about important issues.
