Deer season fever has started!

A Virginia bow hunter bagged this 10 pointer on the first day of the archery season which began today.

It will only be good eating if the young man who bagged it doesn't waste any time getting the deer skinned out and the meat refrigerated or cooled down on ice. It got up into the low 70s here today, and I bet the flies were on it before the fellow who shot it was able to get to it!

This fellow who went through school with one of my sons bagged this 10 pointer earlier this week with a muzzle loader. I understand that he was hunting on family land near to the town of Emporia, Va.

I have been deer hunting twice in my life, and I am 47. Really just got into it a few years ago. Having a hard time struggling to find someone reliable to really show me the ropes, and I don't want to do anything wrong. I have read a lot, but still prefer someoen actually teach me.

Saturday is the last day here in PA. Going down to a hunting camp Thursday night and will be hunting Friday with a co-worker and our boss.

Sitting or stalking quietly, being out in nature, (trying to stay!) alert to the sights and sounds around you is, in my opinion, the reward from hunting. Getting something for the freezer is just a bonus!
