Desert tech or Tavor .308….

So…I’ve decided my M1A Precision Loaded is going to go away as part of my Great Safe Cleaning of 2023.

I’m probably going to get a MR762 to replace it…

But I do love the bullpups, I do.

And these two definitely popped up on my list.

Anyone played with these, have any input? I lean towards a 20” DT, but Tavors are pretty solid…

Anyone? Anyone?

The only thing is the MR762 by HK has a 16.5 inch barrel much like the Saint Victor I have. Now if I could get an upper with a 20" barrel then that would be a winner. Shorter barrel won't give you the accuracy that a longer barrel will at long range. But no doubt, the MR762 is a fine looking rifle, and the 16.5 inch meets your needs I'd go for it.

My opinion is strictly based on company. I have always had a strong admiration for Isreali small arms and IWI. I do not think I have ever experienced a negative with one of thier firearms.

That's an excellent point. @HansGruber has enough HKs for the moment. Might be time to check out the Israeli offering. I have the Tavor TS-12 and it's my 3rd favorite shotgun in the world.

So, you're going to clear out some stuff in order to go buy more stuff? How much more American can you get than that?

Reminds me of ...

I'm with you on that. I have IWI's Jericho 941 FS9, Jericho PSL9, Zion 15, Tavor X95 and their Masada. Yet to have any problems with any of them. Does that make me a "fanboy"?

I own an MDRX in 308. Here is my take.

The rifle itself works ok but it can be a little finicky. After giving it a little cleaning and lube, I took it to the range and found that the trigger would lock up after every shot. I had to take it apart and re-assemble it several times before I could get it to work reliably. It has to be re-assembled just right to work well. Truevelocity ammo does not work well in this gun due to the ejection system. The plastic cases are too flexible for the ejection cam to work properly. Even with brass cases 2/3s of the case mouths have a dent due to the cam having to push the front of the case into the ejection well. Sometimes this dent will get caught up in the ejection well.

The big issue is customer support. It took about 10 months from payment to delivery. I ordered the Mantis fore end and the torque wrench. The Mantis, torque wrench and barrel came trickling in during the 10 month wait with the chassis finally arriving. The estimated ship date on the web is set at order time but does not get updated. I have had the rifle for about 2 years but the website still shows it yet to be delivered. The on line registration also does not work. No one answers the phone and left messages go unanswered. Email response is spotty and when I did get a delivery update, it was never met. My emails to support on my issues were met with a terse "fill out the warranty repair card and send it back". There was no way I was going to send it back and wait another 10 months. I just fixed the issues myself as best I could.

The Mantis fore end right leg would keep collapsing at every shot. Emails to them on it went unanswered. I noticed that BLK LBL was the manufacturer so I contacted them. Their customer service was great and they sent me a replacement as soon as they received the defective unit. However, since they are in Canada, I had to spend $50 to ship it there USPS. It took Canadian Customs over a month to process it through so that was another 2 months lost.

My plan was to order additional barrel kits for it but after my experience that will not happen. It was unfortunate that I got the urge to want a 308 bullpup when I did. If I had waited a few years, the crop of 308's coming out now would have been a better choice.

Just my opinion.
