Hey gang!
Yes, I went to the range two days in a row. Today I concentrated on getting the sights adjusted on my new Mark IV. I was back at my favorite lane #9 at Fletcher Arms.
I brought only two brands of .22 ammo to see if it made a difference. The Mark IV seemed to run better with the Winchester Wildcat and had a few more FTEs with the Aguila Super Extra. But that may be because it was starting to get too dirty once I got around to using the Aguila. I'll have a pistol cleaning party tonight.
This session was dedicated to my "target" pistols, Ruger Mark IV Target (5.5") and XDM Elite Precision (5.25"). I'm also trying to make myself worthy of having actual target pistols.
I used a single 12x18 reactive silhouette for this session, just kept patching it up and sending it back out. I started close, five yards, shot a mag, made some adjustments, shot another mag.
Thinking I've just about got it dialed in, I pushed it out to seven yards and tried a couple more mags.
Let me give it one more click to the left and see if I can get my group more centered. I pushed it out to ten yards.
The group seems more centered but spread out a little. Let's see if I can do better. That little red dot in the bullseye is hard for these old eyes to see. This is a little better.
I still let one get out of the 4" circle. Drat. Let's try again.
It seems that I am consistently inconsistent. Let's stick on another 4" bullseye and go one more at thirty feet.
Except for the one bad flyer it seems the pistol is now doing exactly what I tell it to. Now we're going to switch from the Winchester Wildcat to the Aguila Super Extra and add some more distance.
This is the first two magazines at fifteen yards. I let a few get out of the 4" circle. It's really hard to see that little red bullseye dot.
I'll try a few more. This one seems to be falling apart, a half dozen outside the 4" circle.
I think (eye) fatigue may be setting in. Come to think of it, I haven't yet eaten today. Maybe my blood sugar is getting low.
This 12x18 silhouette sure looks small at 15 yards (45 feet). That red dot in the bull is 1/2 inch.
So, let me stick on one of my 8" reactive circles. The red dot in the middle is bigger, maybe I can see it better.
Drat, I let one get outside the 8" circle. I'm really starting to suck. Tell you what. Let's bring it back to ten yards. I'll try to get my mojo back.
OK, those two magazines don't look too bad. Let's go back to 15 yards one more time.
I let just a few get outside the 4" circle. I think with a little more practice and a little more patience I'll be able to tighten up that group. Maybe I'll be able to hit all the red dots, on purpose.
Oops! I just found out the range is closing early today, in twenty minutes, because of a defensive shotgun class. So I'm going to load up a box of 2A Warehouse Capitol Cartridge 9mm, which fits easily in the three magazines I have for my XDM, and send it downrange very quickly.
Yeah, I'm all over the place, basically doing three consecutive mag dumps. I think I'll come back tomorrow with just this pistol and get more serious with it. Imagine that, three range days in a row! Woot! I'll try. We'll see. Thanks for putting up with me.
Thank you for your indulgence,
