Did not think they still sold these

Omg lolol did not think thry still sold these things. They are the worst pieces of crap ever. They came about after Rambo and his Jimmy Lile hollow handled survival knife and the craze it started.

These were pitiful, basically a 1/2 inch threaded tang holding a hollow aluminum tube to the cheapest so called saw backed blade ever.

I remeber buying one to disect. Gave one whack on a branch and separated the two pieces lolol. I could not even see keeping thr cardboard sheath or junk whetstone. The wire saw broke when I tried putting it together lol. Have not seen one of these in years

Yep, most of those things were garbage, there were a few that were decent, but they wasn't that cheap. you could buy that junk for 6 to 10 bucks back then. I have one of the original old bucks. Blade is too thick to do anything serious with. weighs a ton. there is a decent compass in the sheath pouch. I tried gutting a deer with it one time. last i used it. wasn't worth a crap for skinning and gutting. guess if i needed to stab the deer it woulda been good

Yeah I remember when those came out. Part of thier hype was supposedly a Navy SEAL helped design it and the "grappling hook", probably on a wicked bender.

The biggest issue, besides figuring why you would carry it, was the squared off bases of the tooth cuts created a stress riser where the blade could, and in some cases did, break when the blade was torqued.

Here's my (only) vintage offering, from the seventies: Parker Brothers survival knife. The sheath for this beauty is more than one half inch plus thickness.
It's proven a very handy companion, many times.

Nice knife, never seen that one before.

Never seen a two piece construction hollow handled knife that I would trust in a wilderness situation. Seen way too many fail when heavy chopping or being batoned thru wood to notch or split, broke several that way, nice ones too, back in that craze.

The only hollow handled knife I would truly trust is the Chris Reeves model ground from a single piece of steel.

That's why I like the Nessmuk trio setup so much for outdoors. A belt ax, sheath knife and a folder. I will occasionally swap a large full tang blade or machete for the belt ax.
