Everywhere you turn there's a carbon-fiber barrel or stock on a rifle. Does the lightweight material really prove superior to steel and wood?

Thanks for sharing Talyn!
Good well rounded descriptive article thoughts and words on carbon fiber or CF.

Is just my thoughts on CF. Reminiscent of the same marketing hype/push with fiberglass?
Fiberglass when 1st introduced was deemed water proof. Many things were used as forms including cardboard, foam, wood and various metals. Guess what? FG by itself isn't waterproof, only water resistant and becomes saturated and water logged creating nasty messes and structural damage also rust and other corrosion. In a sense a sponge. May not blow out a barrel, but condensation may rot out the barrel instead? Condensation or sweating is a big concern too. Proper coatings are the secret of FG remaining water proof. Same with CF?

Another thing to consider on CF barrels? They may lighten the load but at what cost?
In some ways, heavier steel barrels are like a sailboat's ballast, helps keep and steady barrel rise down during recoil. Think of the gun's barrel as the sailboats mast? Weight is partially why many target guns have longer barrels. Longer barrels usually include more weight. Weight can be very beneficial if balanced out right. Detrimental if not.
