Do you agree

My pick would be a Ruger Mark IV..

Gave this a bit of thought and personally I would consider most iconic as a firearm that even non gun people recognize they are that iconic and visible/used in media and by others. Even if they do not know the proper name they recognize the firearm.

Some examples would be I believe,

Luger
1911
Colt "peacemaker"
Sw Snubbie known colloquially as the "38"

There are others.

AR15-M16 would fit that bill

maybe for the time period /era, iconic guns would have been the Luger and the 1911.

in earlier decades, another type, then in later decades, yet another.

don't forget too, the clones, as there is always someone willing to mass produce cheap run off copies of an original.

Hmmm, most iconic, maybe one of the most.

But lots of contenders, Colt SAA, Colt 1911, lots to choose from depending upon tastes.
What he said. ;)

I grew up with Lugers on TV and in the movies, and even had a plastic Marx cap pistol Luger when I was a kid. By the time I was old enough to buy real guns, they were already out of my price range. I've never shot, much less owned one, but I have handled a few belonging to friends.

About 30 years ago at a local gun show I spotted a Stoeger .22 Luger at a very attractive price, and it followed me home. It's a lot of fun to shoot, and was as accurate and reliable as my Ruger Mark II. Last few times I had it out, it was giving me extraction problems; I think the extractor spring might be weak but the thing is such a PITA to strip that I haven't gotten around to sorting it out.

Couple years ago I went on a CO2/BB replica gun binge and bought an Umarex Legends Luger. Had my friend bring his real Luger over to compare and the replication was amazing. Same size, same shape, same weight, same feel, same operation; the replica even has the same monkey-motion toggle action when you shoot it. It's at least as much fun to shoot as the Stoeger (within its ballistic limits, of course), and I find that it completely scratches my Luger itch.

Yeah, we all know you have suspect taste in guns.

I agree that this is a slanted article by the author. It should have been titled Most Iconic Gun for Boomers. That being said, the Luger is ugly the way the A-10 or F-4 is ugly - in an extremely beautiful way.
Surprised you didnt call out that ugly beast of Brit junk the Sten gun as most iconic 🤔🙂😉
