Often I come across people that carry. And there is a wide range of people that have a specific time perameter for cleaning their CCW if at all. However, more often I find that very few people actually clean their holster.

Do you clean your holster? If so, how often? If not, will this prompt you to start?

I clean mine from time to time when its wet from sweat I dry it out then clean it with Saddle Soap it not only softens the leather but takes out the salt that's in your perspiration, salt causes rust so I also clean inside the holster as well it cleans and softens the leather for a smooth draw. No salt stains on the leather.

My kydex IWBs are open-muzzle at the bottom so they don't get a lot of "stuff" in them anyway. One has a backing made out of thin stainless sheet covered in neoprene on the skin side, and a medium-grippy rubber on the weapon side. The other is relatively thick cowhide. I tend to wear the stainless-backing more often, as the leather likes to creak and pop (so much for concealment!), and the stainless has better attaching hardware for the belt clips.

I'll wipe 'em out once in a while if I see a lot of lint when I draw, but for the most part...I let 'em air dry overnight every night, and haven't had any issues or odors.

I own 1 leather backed Kydex IWB that I never use therefore never gets cleaned-my other holsters are all leather of the custom types-TT Gunleather-Allessi-Ritchie Leather-Mernickle-these never get touched with anything that softens leather as that would render them useless.

I see no issue with cleaning Kydex holsters or other rigs built with man made materials. Galco recommends wiping down the leather dry, with a soft brush or clean rag, but absolutely no saddle soaps or oils. The leather gets too soft for a good solid retention. What you get is a poor fitting holster after a time.
