Don’t Believe The Hype:

I agree, though I've migrated to the 6.5 CM lately.
I like the .308 and .270 as good general purpose for Texas. Deer are fairly small here so both work well on deer and hogs. Not a huge distance shooter so I stick with the Grendell, .308 & .270.
 
I have good news for you guys. You can have both. And some 30-30s as well.

For the record, when I rifle hunt ( which is rare, I usually pistol hunt) I usually take one of my 30-06s. Even here in Missouri where an 1894 is adequate.
