And you dug all the footings by hand? Oof. Hopefully you don’t have much rock in your area. We are loaded with red shale.

are you going to use real wood or the 1's with wood fibers in plastic pressed/glued? can't think of what it's called other than manufactured like osb or particle, but better for the outdoors. wolf is the only brand that comes to mind.

Yep dug by hand. Belled out at the bottom ( like an elephant's foot) and 36" deep. Dirt is generally good around here. River dirt. In the one pic you can see the river looking out my door. Also in one pic you can see a little bastard black and white cat hiding under my beam. Neighborhood strays come up around back to stalk my bird feeders. I throw rocks at them ( not really "At" them, but..) Stupid, drunk ***** down the street started a cat factory and she refused to let us round them up and at least get them neutered. Now there is a plethora of inbred little bird killers all over the place.

You mean for the decking/treads? I'll be using wolmanized ( I guess it is just pressure treated these days). Using composite triples the price. I'm 55 years old. The deck really only needs to last 20 years.
Besides, if you treat the wood with CWF or some other sealer every 3-4 years and occasionally flip the boards over to the other side they'll last a ridiculously long time.

The long beam, the one that runs between the house and my shop, that mofo was insanely heavy. Getting that bastard up on the posts was challenging. I got all my wood from an actual lumber yard so it's all number #1, wet and heavy as hell. You ask Home Depot or Lowes about #1 and they literally don't even know what you mean.

We used to have a few barn cats that would stroll through. They were fat and happy hunting field mice and the occasional rat down by the creek in my backyard.

That's going to be a good looking setup, well done.
I used Trex composite when I built my deck. It doesn't triple the price, more like just under double. It'll last 30 plus years with no maintenance other than hosing it off on occasion.
Modern treated lumber is not as good as it was 30 years ago, be lucky to get 20 years out of it. Flipping it over every few years sounds like a pain

Also, the wood I got is all #1 grade and soaking wet. It's as good as any wolmanized board I've ever seen. My buddy has a ( much smaller) deck that has to be 30 years old now. Still looks great. And if you don't think I'll go out there and flip those boards over every few years you don't know me very well. I mean at least as long as I am able to do the work. Plus it will get CWF every couple years.
