Over 2,500 Lockheed F-104 Starfighters were constructed across 30 years between 1954 and 1984– a lengthy run only bested in recent years by the F-16 and F-15 series. Of these, some 949 F-104G variants were built under license for West Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy by the ARGE consortium in Western Europe of which the Dutch firms of Fokker and Aviolanda were major partners.

Douglas A4 production was 2960 aircraft. They were used by multiple countries in numerous wars.
OK....,There's an existing A-4 thread so you can post that info there since the Dutch never used the A-4.

My point was not that the Dutch used the A4 but the initial statement in the article was incorrect. Production of the F104 was almost 500 fewer than the Skyhawks.
My other point was that the Skyhawks were actually used in combat while I’m not sure the 104 ever fired a shot in anger.

The article was comparing the overall length F-104 production run, not the total numbers, to the on-going production runs of the F-15 & F-16.

The A-4 was in production from 1954–1979, ... 25 years, so the article was correct.

The F-104 was used in combat in Vietnam....,
