i went to the cemetery Sunday morning, to check on the flag i got in the ground on grand-dad's & grand-ma's grave. i had to check, cuz we had a "bomb cyclone" go thru here recently. the flag's wooden stake was bent, otherwise, still standing.
grand-dad was inducted for the army in 1917. (i have that induction letter) i have no information as to his where abouts during his time, his duty, etc. etc. he came home, alive, that much i do know of. (we HAD his discharge papers, honorably discharged, but the paper was badly tattered, i read it, but i think it got thrown out)
i tried emailing the US Veterans office(??) in D.C., but was told they could not trace him by his induction number, and there was a fire there..???? so nearly all records were lost.
would have been nice to know if he was stationed stateside, or overseas.
when he was inducted, he and grand ma, was from Italy, and for his service, he and grand ma, became automatic US Citizens.
wish i could have known more.
