Electric or Natural Gas? What's your preference?

I thought I would put this out there because I am curious. I have cooked with electric most of my life, but I remember my mom lighting a gas stove with matches when I was young (a long, long time ago ). The husband moved into this home we built nine years ago, and I insisted on natural gas, after watching so many food shows on the box. It took a little getting used to as it is quicker and cooks quick. I wouldn't go back to electric unless I was forced to. So...what do you do?

Gas for sure. We have a 6 burner with griddle that has given us great service for 25 years. It is electronic ignition but the maker was smart enough to include the ability to operate it without electric power. It was a godsend a few winters back when we had the rolling blackouts. While we used it sparingly for heat, it did keep the house from getting uncomfortable cold. Hot water is also gas powered.
Our area does not have natural gas so I put in a 1000 gallon propane tank. It also has a liquid line that allows me to fill my propane bottles at a greatly reduced price. It has also allowed me to fill up during the summer when propane prices tend to be reduced. FYI - a large number of propane dealers will give you commercial rates if your tank is over the standard 500 gal residential tank. When I built the house, I had all major appliance locations both plumbed for gas and wired for 230volt. That way, I am covered for all contingencies.

I have a large dual fuel generator to power the whole house (except for air conditioning) and a small portable propane inverter generator for amateur radio field days. I never have to worry about stale gas in the tanks.

Natural gas has always been better and cheaper to operate for me.

So many choices, convection, turbo modes, air fry, keep warm drawers, self-cleaning, rotisserie racks and who can’t live without the touchscreen WiFi Bluetooth connectivity flat panel display that even lets you instagram your Thanksgiving turkey throughout the worldwide internets.

Why can’t they just make a stove where you strike a match, turn a knob and be done with all the bells and whistles. It’s was the old days when there was a ‘summer kitchen’ in the basement where grandma kept the double oven that had so many doors.

My gas range touchpad computer control panel fizzled out after 20 yrs, killed the oven’s ability to turn on the igniter element but burners still operate, and of course can’t override this safety feature.
I’ve been holding out for a scratch & dent return item to show up at the local appliance center before paying full price on a stove that only has 1 side showing. I’m no cook, and never used electric ranges anyway. I think I've been without a full size range now for over a year, as I said I don’t bake or roast much.

So in waiting to buy a new natural gas range, I picked up an electric counter top oven. This little unit works great, certainly keeps the entire (small) house cooler too in summer when grillin’ isn’t an option.

for decades, the Mrs and i have had gas stoves.

however, like those EV cars, there are those in charge that want to be rid of the gas stoves, for full on electric lifestyle.

if the Mrs and i stay here, we will continue to enjoy gas.

should we up and move, we are dead set on seeking out gas piped homes, or condos, or townhouses.

if all else fails, then for sure, propane stove trailers.

I prefer natural gas for cooking. That's what I grew up with and I really think it cooks better.
OTOH, my wife liked electric. Wanna guess what's in my house?

I grew up in the country and as a child we had two 50 LB propane tanks to cook off of. I lived in the country until our house burnt and we then moved to town. It was propane till we first moved to town and then it was natural gas.

I moved to housing in 2016 and now am stuck with electric. I HATE it!!!!! Even though the stove is level the biggest burner isn't. Of course the biggest burner is the one used all the time. I played with the burner some and got it close but still not level. It irks me to no end.

Thanks for getting me started belladonna. :ROFLMAO:

GAS!
Last electric stove I bought wouldn't boil a small pot of water after 1&1/2 hour. When I called to see if there was maybe a problem somewhere, I was told it was a safety feature so children would get burned. The conversation went south from there. Evidently, it's better for children to get sick or die from undercooked food than burn their little finers  and learn not to touch the hot stove.
