Just picked up my first 1911 (Springfield Emissary 9mm). Question: Is it normal that I have to press the mag release in order to insert a magazine? Never experienced this with any other pistols.
No. It is possible that it needs a minor adjustment. The mag release on my Emissary .45 was seated incorrectly and I had to adjust it to allow the magazines to be released.
That being said…it kinda sounds like the mag catch might be a touch out of spec. If it doesn’t rectify itself quickly, you may want to either have Springfield correct it, or (what I’d do) get a Wilson Bulletproof mag release and do a little fitting.
Just for what it’s worth - probably nuthin’ - my Spgfld Garrison takes a moderate slam to seat the mag. Getting better with time.
I’m kinda thinking its worse with the CMC mags I bought, but I’ll have to check…
Point is, not a major issue unless you’ve got hand/wrist problems…
PS- my Ronins do NOT have this prob. Uniformly better fit & finish than my Garrison.
