Employment Change

So my last job ended on July 1st and I couldn’t be happier, now I’m not saying unemployment is fun and although I enjoyed the work I was doing the owner was a conceded maniac who enjoyed creating a hostile work environment and my direct boss lied about everything to make himself look good.
So enough of me venting.
I was contacted today concerning an opening as an armed protection officer that I applied for. I was upfront with the gentleman I spoke to about not having my CC Permit and was surprised to hear that they will help me get that as well as the Kentucky license as an armed protection officer.
The reason for my post is they will be supplying me with a S&W MP 9mm

The picture above is the gun, they will also supply me with 3 magazines and ammunition and holster.
My question is who has this gun and what can you tell me about it?
The last SW I had was a MP Shield in 40 caliber and with bigger then normal hands couldn’t shot it worth a damn.

These are good guns, I have owned several of the original version, my local Sheriff Dept. just switched to these a couple years ago for there duty weapon. Take down is rather simple, if you don't want to pull the trigger to remove the slide to disassemble it, lock the slide open and there is a small green colored lever in there, push it down and just remove the slide, that's the was the owners manual says to do it, but it can be done both ways, I don't know to much about the Mod 2 version, but I have shot one and yes, the trigger and reset are far better then the original one. Congrats on the new job, hope it works out for you.

Thank you my friend, the job sounds exciting with most of it being armed escort and private security for Government officials with some post work as well. I’ll be taking my tests with the SW and not having shot a 9mm in awhile I was wondering how they fair.

Sorry to hear about your previous employment & subsequent leaving Keystone. I’ve worked for, and with, similar people during my years of employment in the IT field, so I know where you’re coming from.
I have both models of the M&P 9. The version 1 was actually the first handgun I purchase in 2012, followed a few years later getting the 2.0 version. 4.25” barrel, with 17 round capacity (and they both use the same mags which was nice). I like the M&P series and have several of their full size in 9, 40 & 45.
I’d say it’s comparable to the Glock 19 (which I also own), but the M&P’s fit my hands a bit better. I use to carry the full size 9, but switched to the ported PC Shields, first the 9, then the 45. I now carry the Hellcat, but recently bought the Performance Center Shield Plus in 9mm (model that has a 4” barrel), as a potential EDC in the future.
I think you’ll like the full size M&P 9 @Keystone19250, but I obviously don’t know your preferences in fit and feel. (But then again, what gun would feel comfortable shooting with goose wings as hands 🙌😆🤣🤦‍♂️).
But seriously, good luck in your new position, and be safe out there!

Glad you are getting to do something that you'll enjoy. My son got an early M&P in .40 cal to carry off-duty; however, after he qualified with it he was concerned that the trigger pull was much lighter than that of his then duty weapon which was a Glock. He really liked the pistol. It worked well and was fairly accurate, but the light trigger was a concern. So it is mostly a range gun now.

I don't have any experience with the gun you'll be issued but I do have an M&P Shield 9mm 1.0 in my carry rotation and it's been a great pistol for me right out of the box although it was a little stiff at first but smoothed out nicely after about 500 rounds. I added TruGlo Tritium Pro Night Sights and a Crimson Trace LL-801G laser/light as upgrades. No complaints or failures of any kind. Congratulations and good luck on your new job!

Edit to correct auto correct as usual.

So since I haven’t been shooting in awhile I’m going to try and hit the range this week to get some handgun time in.
Aside from that I’m going camping this weekend to see how my cat will deal with the camper. It’s going to be interesting to say the least.

Well to the vet twice and she was fairly quiet. This is a short trip so I’m leaning towards crating her in the truck. On a long trip it would have to be the camper so she could use the litter box.
Vet rides sound encouraging. Might sound a bit funky or hokey to some, but maybe put one of those child monitor system in the truck and trailer if she's riding in the camper? Maybe a few advantages to that scenario? If she freaks out, you'd know?

Well, as for the gun, since I know nothing of driving my farm cats around.

I train many security officers/armored car guards/bodyguards for their Florida "G" license and a good number of them carry this pistol. I think the ergonomics are superior to the Glock ergonomics and the pistols are very reliable. As stated above the takedown is pretty easy. There are changeable backstraps to accommodate different size hands. I recommend Level III holsters from Safariland or Blackhawk for uniformed security officers. Good luck with your new endeavor and cat wrangling.

Thanks for the information on the S&W.
I was told they would supply the holster but not sure what brand, I’m guessing something with a retention strap.
