Eye Dominance and Cross-Eye Dominant Shooting

Nice read on eye dominance and cross eyed dominant, decent article.

I discovered I was left eye dominant ( I shoot right handed) a few years ago. It explained a lot of things regarding my historically mediocre marksmanship. After deciding that most of the " Fixes" I read about on the internet didn't appeal to me I came up with my own. It should be pointed out that shooting a long gun or any gun with an adjustable optic negates the effects of cross eye dominance. You simply adjust the optic to POI using whatever eye you are shooting with. Handguns with iron sights is a little tricky, but my fix was to do something like the author of this article states. That is line the sights up with your dominant eye by either tilting your head slightly or in my case, moving the gun in front of the dominant eye. I shoot with both eyes open other than with a scoped rifle. My marksmanship improved greatly when I began doing this.

With shotguns I shot left handed for many years. Probably because my right handed father shoots shotguns and rifles left handed. In reality we are both somewhat ambidextrous. If I shoot a bead sighted shotgun right handed I miss. These days I have optics on everything except handguns and I shoot shotguns and rifles comfortably from either side, though I usually shoot them right handed with the exception of my 500 which has a single sheered off bead sight on the muzzle. I either shoot it lefty or point shoot right handed.

I am cross dominant (left eye dominant/right hand shooter), which is fine. I also have a astigmatism in my right eye, which makes shooting with both eyes open a little more challenging. The astigmatism blurs the front sight and I consistently shoot left of center. However, if I close that eye and shoot with my dominant eye only the sight picture is crystal clear and my shots hit more toward the center. I am an ocular mess.
I had no real experience with long guns so when I started shooting them I learned to shoot left handed. Felt awkward at first but now shooting right handed feels awkward especially with bolt guns.

Same way
I trained myself to usually go 2 oclock on a target and I hit bull. If I aim bullseye, I hit low left of bullseye
