I have read about the push/pull shotgun technique, but have never tried it. Maybe one of these days I can. I would like to see how much difference it makes to my shoulder.

Do so. The effect is immediate, dramatic, and worthwhile. With age, I'll admit that felt recoil has definitely increased, especially with 00 and #4 buckshot. The push/pull method is a true mitigate

Push pull is helpful with an AR as well. Accuracy and speed improved for me with a carbine using it.
