Fentanyl crisis

This stuff is serious bad news. My Sheriff says it clearly

Bad stuff, scares the 'ell out of me thinking of my grand daughters somehow getting ahold of this stuff accidently. I don't think they would do purposefully, but, I imagine every grand parent thinks that and yet here we are. Who knows what goes on in thier head and with thier peers.

We lost the war on drugs a long time ago. Way too much money involved for people on both sides of the law.
I think they should make all drugs legal. Hand 'em out free of charge and as much as they want to anybody that wants them.
In just a few months, the problem would fix itself.

I think the Chi-Coms are sending it to S. America. in Mexico the cartels now have actual chemists and scientists and are producing it, along side 2 different types of meth, in the same factory. This is how meth heads OD on Fentanyl without knowing it. One of the types of methamphetamine is also a drug that totally F's people up. My neighbor was certain his ex girlfriend had her arms and legs cut off and was living in between his box springs and mattress. They call it "Ice" and its so cheap the rednecks aren't even cooking their own anymore.

I see it every day as a LEO and let me say it's really bad. I just love it when I Narcan someone and basically save their life and then they take a swing at me or wanna fight me which happens more often than not.
When I was working at the new soccer stadium downtown I watched a guy doing the fish dance. Some cops stopped and Narcan'ed him. The guy got up and walked away. I walked over and talked to the officers and they told me they had Narcan'ed him earlier that day as well. I asked them why they bothered. They pointed to their body cams.

Study up on addiction.
Isnt rather like blaming the firearm companies for what the user does with it? When the media and others do that we as gun owners decry it. That's a tad too simplistic.

And trust me. I know about addiction, but just because it is available does not absolve the greatest part of the problem from those using it.

You want to make it everyone else's fault but the user that's up to you. Two things stop an addiction, death, and the person stopping the behavior.

Yes there is the component of personal responsibility and it is key. Most addicts start using at a very young age, when poor judgment and lack of life experience lead to bad decision making.

But drugs are being marketed to susceptible young people by predators who need addicts for the cash flow. Once the addiction takes hold they have a regular customer. There is very little more vile in my book than purveyors of illegal drugs to vulnerable young people.

I will agree there, it is vile, but having lived thru the 60s, an 70s, heroin and then Coke, meth, Chinese fentanol is just another drug to be abused, deadly as it is. Get rid of it, something will take its place as long as there is a demand.

Just an opinion from one who has had family go thu it. They, being the ones I knew who were addicted, blamed the Asians, the Columbians, the Mexicans, anybody thry could get to feel like it was not them.

And another aspect is the crimes committed by addicts to support the habit.

My wife and I were just discussing this last night. I made the statement that I bet thst about 70 percent of crime has some aspect of drug use associated with it. Now that may be high, but I bet it's closer than most sheep think.
Most of the burglars and armed robbers I encountered were supporting some kind of habit. Satistically about 25% of persons IN PRISON for property crimes admitted to committing the crime to get money to buy drugs. Since most are never sent to prison, Your 70% number is probably close.
