The H&K 4.6×30. Heckler and Koch’s answer to the Belgian FN 5.7x28, neither would go on to fill any contract with widescale success, but both gained civilian attention in a big way. If you want a cartridge to sell, all you have to do is hint that the military has its eyes on it. Then, as long as there is a supply, it’s as simple as feeding consumer-available guns into the pipeline to move ammo off the shelves.

i've come close to getting dies to reload this cartridge and a few smg type firearms! between the 7.5bn (?) and the 7.62x25 tok (whatever it's called) it's been a tossup

I dunno. Looks to me like a solution in search of a problem. I mean why would you choose a Less powerful and More expensive round for any SD role? Yeah, it shoots flatter, but that it totally irrelevant at real world SD distances. I like new stuff but I just don’t get this (or the 5.7) as “SD” alternative. I suppose in a full auto sub gun, spraying multiple rounds and scoring multiple hits, it would be “ok”. For me? No sale. A hit or two from a 9mm or larger will beat a hit or two from this lil guy every single time. I mean, IF this expands Perfectly it’ll grow to what, .36? Or, the starting diameter of a 9 or .38/.357. So what do we have? Limited effectiveness as an SD round, way to weak for hunting anything but small game and WAY to expensive to plink with. Very neat concept but not very practical.

Only if you don't reload.

I do reload, BUT try to find 18 caliber bullets—-if they become available I doubt they’ll be cheap
i just found out that trying to get 18cal bullets are non-existent by my searching. so, either neck down (bore to match) to 17 or go up to 20 (bore to match)..................well, scratch that all together as i thought it was a 20cal? wasn't sure on how hk determined the 4.6.........by lands or by grooves as some 257's are 26cals? maybe i'll do this as my next project..............neck down to 17cal (chamber and bore to match) and have fun?

Be easier to just build a .17 Hornet🙄. If it was either a 17 OR a 20 it could be loaded pretty cheap, but an .18? Gotta wonder “why”?

it's funny that hornady produces this ammo, but doesn't sell 18cal bullets! 57 cents/per is the cheapest i could find on this cartridge, but the 5.7 is about 15 cents less/per. an article stated the 5.7 was @ $1/per, which is mostly false. if the 17h was rimless i'd might go that way? 17 mach iv might be the ticket?

I’ve got a couple boxes of this, mainly as a curiosity. I think it might be S&B, though…

If HK puts out a SP7, I’ll buy one.

And it’s 4.6mm because HK made a couple other .18’s in the past…the G11, and an experimental round for the G3 platform.

Actually 57 cents/round is surprisingly cheap. I’d have guessed .75 to 1.25/rd.
