Was a district coordinator for the State Game and Fish Commission's 'Hunter Safety' program for many years, about 16 IIRC. Had opportunities to teach and work with many young (and some older) hunters. It was always special to see the sparkle in the eye and the smile on the face when they would get that first hit on whatever target was intended during classes. I even had the good fortune of seeing that on some faces while actually in the woods and on the hunt. Shot placement and ethics were my two pet issues.

But what was really special was when I'd get a letter/picture of some of those kids with their first game taken and how they appreciated what I had helped them gain. It didn't matter whether a deer, turkey, hog, or squirrel. It was all 'big game' to those kids. And those letters/pictures were big deals to me. I'm just an old softy I guess. LOL! Retired from it about 19-20 yrs ago but still get an occasional picture/letter or even a visit from some of them sharing their hunting stories with me just as I had done with them 20+ yrs ago.

Shoot it, eat it does not apply to legal nuisance animals like crows, hogs or coyotes. Lets see you eat a coyote killing calf’s in a field. I get where you are coming from, but not real life advice to a farmer or rancher
